Mortty v5 BlinkTone test program by Larry K8UT 2024-05-04

This program tests hardware devices on Mortty v5 keyers: the CW Speed pot, the sidetone audio ouptut, the 9 LEDs, and the Radio1 & Radio2 outputs.

PRIOR TO INSTALL: Close the logging program that uses the Mortty Keyer. Unplug rear-panel Radio outputs.

TO INSTALL BlinkTone: Refer to the website's >Support >Updates page and upload the Mortty_BlinkTone.uf2 file to your keyer.

TO UNINSTALL BlinkTone: Refer to the website's >Support >Updates page and upload the latest firmware release.

TO RUN BlinkTone: BLINK automatically launches and runs in a continuous loop:

- If Mortty is getting power from the USB jack, the blue LED will be lit

- If the Speed Pot is working properly, the CW Speed pot setting will control the rate at which BLINK exercises the LEDs, Radio outputs, and sidetone. MINIMUM is slow; MAXIMUM is fast

- If the LEDs and R1/R2 outputs are working properly, a lit LED will correspond to an enabled pin (CW, RTTY, PTT) on the rear-panel output jack.

- If the sidetone/audio board is working properly, a 1KHz tone will be generated when all three LEDs are lit for Radio1, a 1200Hz tone when Radio2.

- If the rear-panel volume control is working properly, the sitetone audio pot will adjust from OFF to MAX volume

- If the rear-panel CW<->RTTY switch is working properly, the rear-panel CW or RTTY LED will light, based upon the CW<->RTTY switch position.

BlinkTone ADVANCED TESTING: BlinkTone can perform loop-back tests of CW and PTT signals (sorry, not enough inputs for RTTY) between the rear-panel Radio1 output and the CW Paddle input port, or the rear panel Radio2 output and the CW paddle port. You will need a three conductor Tip-Ring-Sleeve (TRS "stereo") with male plus on both ends. Plug one end of the stereo cable into the front-panel CW Paddle input jack, and the other end into either the rear-panel Radio1 or Radio2 output jack.

- BlinkTone will recognize the inserted cable and test for continuity between the radio's CW and PTT outputs and the CW paddle's dot and dash inputs.

- if BlinkTone detects a cable continuity problem, all 6 Radio LEDs will light simultaneously.

NOTE: BlinkTone's simplest mode of operation will indicate proper operation by blinking the LEDs and sending tones to the sidetone speaker. For in-depth status of exactly which LED is being exercised, connect to Mortty's serial port at 9600,8,N,1 with a serial com program (PuTTY, CoolTerm, ...) to see real-time BlinkTone information.
